بَرَآءَةٌ Freedom from obligations مِّنَ from ٱللَّهِ Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ and His Messenger إِلَى to ٱلَّذِينَ those (with) whom عَـٰهَدتُّم you made a covenant مِّنَ from ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists

فَسِيحُوا۟ So move about فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the land أَرْبَعَةَ (during) four أَشْهُرٍ months وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ but know أَنَّكُمْ that you غَيْرُ (can) not مُعْجِزِى escape ٱللَّهِ Allah ۙ   وَأَنَّ and that ٱللَّهَ Allah مُخْزِى (is) the One Who (will) disgrace ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers

وَأَذَٰنٌ And an announcement مِّنَ from Allah ٱللَّهِ from Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ and His Messenger إِلَى to ٱلنَّاسِ the people يَوْمَ (on the) day ٱلْحَجِّ (of) the greater Pilgrimage ٱلْأَكْبَرِ (of) the greater Pilgrimage أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah بَرِىٓءٌ (is) free from obligations مِّنَ [of] ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ (to) the polytheists ۙ   وَرَسُولُهُۥ and (so is) His Messenger ۚ   فَإِن So if تُبْتُمْ you repent فَهُوَ then, it is خَيْرٌ best لَّكُمْ for you ۖ   وَإِن But if تَوَلَّيْتُمْ you turn away فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ then know أَنَّكُمْ that you غَيْرُ (can) not مُعْجِزِى escape ٱللَّهِ Allah ۗ   وَبَشِّرِ And give glad tidings ٱلَّذِينَ (to) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve بِعَذَابٍ of a punishment أَلِيمٍ painful

إِلَّا Except ٱلَّذِينَ those (with) whom عَـٰهَدتُّم you have a covenant مِّنَ among ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists ثُمَّ then لَمْ not يَنقُصُوكُمْ they have failed you شَيْـًٔا (in any) thing وَلَمْ and not يُظَـٰهِرُوا۟ they have supported عَلَيْكُمْ against you أَحَدًا anyone فَأَتِمُّوٓا۟ so fulfil إِلَيْهِمْ to them عَهْدَهُمْ their treaty إِلَىٰ till مُدَّتِهِمْ their term ۚ   إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah يُحِبُّ loves ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous

فَإِذَا Then when ٱنسَلَخَ have passed ٱلْأَشْهُرُ the sacred months ٱلْحُرُمُ the sacred months فَٱقْتُلُوا۟ then kill ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists حَيْثُ wherever وَجَدتُّمُوهُمْ you find them وَخُذُوهُمْ and seize them وَٱحْصُرُوهُمْ and besiege them وَٱقْعُدُوا۟ and sit (in wait) لَهُمْ for them كُلَّ (at) every مَرْصَدٍ place of ambush ۚ   فَإِن But if تَابُوا۟ they repent وَأَقَامُوا۟ and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَءَاتَوُا۟ and give ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ the zakah فَخَلُّوا۟ then leave سَبِيلَهُمْ their way ۚ   إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah غَفُورٌ (is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌ Most Merciful

وَإِنْ And if أَحَدٌ anyone مِّنَ of ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists ٱسْتَجَارَكَ seek your protection فَأَجِرْهُ then grant him protection حَتَّىٰ until يَسْمَعَ he hears كَلَـٰمَ (the) Words of Allah ٱللَّهِ (the) Words of Allah ثُمَّ Then أَبْلِغْهُ escort him مَأْمَنَهُۥ (to) his place of safety ۚ   ذَٰلِكَ That بِأَنَّهُمْ (is) because they قَوْمٌ (are) a people لَّا (who) do not know يَعْلَمُونَ (who) do not know

كَيْفَ How يَكُونُ can (there) be لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ for the polytheists عَهْدٌ a covenant عِندَ with ٱللَّهِ Allah وَعِندَ and with رَسُولِهِۦٓ His Messenger إِلَّا except ٱلَّذِينَ those (with) whom عَـٰهَدتُّمْ you made a covenant عِندَ near ٱلْمَسْجِدِ Al-Masjid ٱلْحَرَامِ Al-Haraam ۖ   فَمَا So long as ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ they are upright لَكُمْ to you فَٱسْتَقِيمُوا۟ then you be upright لَهُمْ to them ۚ   إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah يُحِبُّ loves ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous

كَيْفَ How وَإِن while, if يَظْهَرُوا۟ they gain dominance عَلَيْكُمْ over you لَا they do not regard (the ties) يَرْقُبُوا۟ they do not regard (the ties) فِيكُمْ with you إِلًّا (of) kinship وَلَا and not ذِمَّةً covenant of protection ۚ   يُرْضُونَكُم They satisfy you بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ with their mouths وَتَأْبَىٰ but refuse قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ and most of them فَـٰسِقُونَ (are) defiantly disobedient

ٱشْتَرَوْا۟ They exchange بِـَٔايَـٰتِ [with] the Verses of Allah ٱللَّهِ [with] the Verses of Allah ثَمَنًا (for) a little price قَلِيلًا (for) a little price فَصَدُّوا۟ and they hinder (people) عَن from سَبِيلِهِۦٓ His way ۚ   إِنَّهُمْ Indeed سَآءَ evil مَا (is) what كَانُوا۟ they used to يَعْمَلُونَ do

لَا Not يَرْقُبُونَ they respect (the ties) فِى towards مُؤْمِنٍ a believer إِلًّا (of) kinship وَلَا and not ذِمَّةً covenant of protection ۚ   وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those هُمُ [they] ٱلْمُعْتَدُونَ (are) the transgressors

فَإِن But if تَابُوا۟ they repent وَأَقَامُوا۟ and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَءَاتَوُا۟ and give ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ the zakah فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ then (they are) your brothers فِى in ٱلدِّينِ [the] religion ۗ   وَنُفَصِّلُ And We explain in detail ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ the Verses لِقَوْمٍ for a people يَعْلَمُونَ (who) know

وَإِن And if نَّكَثُوٓا۟ they break أَيْمَـٰنَهُم their oaths مِّنۢ after بَعْدِ after عَهْدِهِمْ their treaty وَطَعَنُوا۟ and defame فِى [in] دِينِكُمْ your religion فَقَـٰتِلُوٓا۟ then fight أَئِمَّةَ the leaders ٱلْكُفْرِ (of) [the] disbelief ۙ   إِنَّهُمْ indeed, they لَآ no أَيْمَـٰنَ oaths لَهُمْ for them لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَنتَهُونَ cease

أَلَا Will not تُقَـٰتِلُونَ you fight قَوْمًا a people نَّكَثُوٓا۟ who broke أَيْمَـٰنَهُمْ their oaths وَهَمُّوا۟ and determined بِإِخْرَاجِ to drive out ٱلرَّسُولِ the Messenger وَهُم and they بَدَءُوكُمْ began (to attack) you أَوَّلَ first مَرَّةٍ time ۚ   أَتَخْشَوْنَهُمْ Do you fear them ۚ   فَٱللَّهُ But Allah أَحَقُّ (has) more right أَن that تَخْشَوْهُ you should fear Him إِن if كُنتُم you are مُّؤْمِنِينَ believers

قَـٰتِلُوهُمْ Fight them يُعَذِّبْهُمُ Allah will punish them ٱللَّهُ Allah will punish them بِأَيْدِيكُمْ by your hands وَيُخْزِهِمْ and disgrace them وَيَنصُرْكُمْ and give you victory عَلَيْهِمْ over them وَيَشْفِ and will heal صُدُورَ (the) breasts قَوْمٍ (of) a people مُّؤْمِنِينَ (who are) believers

وَيُذْهِبْ And remove غَيْظَ (the) anger قُلُوبِهِمْ (of) their hearts ۗ   وَيَتُوبُ And Allah accepts repentance ٱللَّهُ And Allah accepts repentance عَلَىٰ of مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower حَكِيمٌ All-Wise

أَمْ Or حَسِبْتُمْ (do) you think أَن that تُتْرَكُوا۟ you would be left وَلَمَّا while not يَعْلَمِ Allah made evident ٱللَّهُ Allah made evident ٱلَّذِينَ those who جَـٰهَدُوا۟ strive مِنكُمْ among you وَلَمْ and not يَتَّخِذُوا۟ take مِن besides Allah دُونِ besides Allah ٱللَّهِ besides Allah وَلَا and not رَسُولِهِۦ His Messenger وَلَا and not ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers وَلِيجَةً (as) intimates ۚ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah خَبِيرٌۢ (is) All-Aware بِمَا of what تَعْمَلُونَ you do

مَا (It) is not كَانَ (It) is not لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ for the polytheists أَن that يَعْمُرُوا۟ they maintain مَسَـٰجِدَ (the) masajid of Allah ٱللَّهِ (the) masajid of Allah شَـٰهِدِينَ (while) witnessing عَلَىٰٓ against أَنفُسِهِم themselves بِٱلْكُفْرِ [with] disbelief ۚ   أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ (For) those حَبِطَتْ worthless أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ (are) their deeds وَفِى and in ٱلنَّارِ the Fire هُمْ they خَـٰلِدُونَ (will) abide forever

إِنَّمَا Only يَعْمُرُ will maintain مَسَـٰجِدَ (the) masajid of Allah ٱللَّهِ (the) masajid of Allah مَنْ (the one) who ءَامَنَ believes بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَٱلْيَوْمِ and the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ the Last وَأَقَامَ and establishes ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَءَاتَى and gives ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ the zakah وَلَمْ and not يَخْشَ fear إِلَّا except ٱللَّهَ Allah ۖ   فَعَسَىٰٓ Then perhaps أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ those أَن [that] يَكُونُوا۟ they are مِنَ of ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ the guided ones

أَجَعَلْتُمْ Do you make سِقَايَةَ the providing of water ٱلْحَآجِّ (to) the pilgrims وَعِمَارَةَ and (the) maintenance ٱلْمَسْجِدِ (of) Al-Masjid Al-Haraam ٱلْحَرَامِ (of) Al-Masjid Al-Haraam كَمَنْ like (the one) who ءَامَنَ believes بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَٱلْيَوْمِ and the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ the Last وَجَـٰهَدَ and strives فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ۚ   لَا They are not equal يَسْتَوُۥنَ They are not equal عِندَ near ٱللَّهِ Allah ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah لَا (does) not يَهْدِى guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَهَاجَرُوا۟ and emigrated وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ and strove فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ with their wealth وَأَنفُسِهِمْ and their lives أَعْظَمُ (are) greater دَرَجَةً (in) rank عِندَ near ٱللَّهِ Allah ۚ   وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those هُمُ they ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ (are) the successful

يُبَشِّرُهُمْ Their Lord gives them glad tidings رَبُّهُم Their Lord gives them glad tidings بِرَحْمَةٍ of Mercy مِّنْهُ from Him وَرِضْوَٰنٍ and Pleasure وَجَنَّـٰتٍ and Gardens لَّهُمْ for them فِيهَا in it نَعِيمٌ (is) bliss مُّقِيمٌ enduring

خَـٰلِدِينَ (They will) abide فِيهَآ in it أَبَدًا forever ۚ   إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عِندَهُۥٓ with Him أَجْرٌ (is) a reward عَظِيمٌ great

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you ٱلَّذِينَ who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe لَا (Do) not تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ take ءَابَآءَكُمْ your fathers وَإِخْوَٰنَكُمْ and your brothers أَوْلِيَآءَ (as) allies إِنِ if ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ they prefer ٱلْكُفْرَ [the] disbelief عَلَى over ٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ [the] belief ۚ   وَمَن And whoever يَتَوَلَّهُم takes them as allies مِّنكُمْ among you فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ then those هُمُ [they] ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ (are) the wrongdoers

قُلْ Say إِن If كَانَ are ءَابَآؤُكُمْ your fathers وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْ and your sons وَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ and your brothers وَأَزْوَٰجُكُمْ and your spouses وَعَشِيرَتُكُمْ and your relatives وَأَمْوَٰلٌ and wealth ٱقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَا that you have acquired وَتِجَـٰرَةٌ and the commerce تَخْشَوْنَ you fear كَسَادَهَا a decline (in) it وَمَسَـٰكِنُ and the dwellings تَرْضَوْنَهَآ you delight (in) it أَحَبَّ (are) more beloved إِلَيْكُم to you مِّنَ than ٱللَّهِ Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger وَجِهَادٍ and striving فِى in سَبِيلِهِۦ His way فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ then wait حَتَّىٰ until يَأْتِىَ Allah brings ٱللَّهُ Allah brings بِأَمْرِهِۦ His Command ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah لَا (does) not يَهْدِى guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ the defiantly disobedient

لَقَدْ Verily نَصَرَكُمُ Allah helped you ٱللَّهُ Allah helped you فِى in مَوَاطِنَ regions كَثِيرَةٍ many ۙ   وَيَوْمَ and (on the) day حُنَيْنٍ (of) Hunain ۙ   إِذْ when أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ pleased you كَثْرَتُكُمْ your multitude فَلَمْ but not تُغْنِ availed عَنكُمْ you شَيْـًٔا anything وَضَاقَتْ and (was) straitened عَلَيْكُمُ for you ٱلْأَرْضُ the earth بِمَا (in spite) of its vastness رَحُبَتْ (in spite) of its vastness ثُمَّ then وَلَّيْتُم you turned back مُّدْبِرِينَ fleeing

ثُمَّ Then أَنزَلَ Allah sent down ٱللَّهُ Allah sent down سَكِينَتَهُۥ His tranquility عَلَىٰ on رَسُولِهِۦ His Messenger وَعَلَى and on ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers وَأَنزَلَ and sent down جُنُودًا forces لَّمْ which you did not see تَرَوْهَا which you did not see وَعَذَّبَ and He punished ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved ۚ   وَذَٰلِكَ And that جَزَآءُ (is) the recompense ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ (of) the disbelievers

ثُمَّ Then يَتُوبُ Allah accepts repentance ٱللَّهُ Allah accepts repentance مِنۢ after بَعْدِ after ذَٰلِكَ that عَلَىٰ for مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah غَفُورٌ (is) Oft-Forgiving رَّحِيمٌ Most Merciful

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe ٱلَّذِينَ O you who believe ءَامَنُوٓا۟ O you who believe إِنَّمَا Indeed ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ the polytheists نَجَسٌ (are) unclean فَلَا so let them not come near يَقْرَبُوا۟ so let them not come near ٱلْمَسْجِدَ Al-Masjid Al-Haraam ٱلْحَرَامَ Al-Masjid Al-Haraam بَعْدَ after عَامِهِمْ this, their (final) year هَـٰذَا this, their (final) year ۚ   وَإِنْ And if خِفْتُمْ you fear عَيْلَةً poverty فَسَوْفَ then soon يُغْنِيكُمُ Allah will enrich you ٱللَّهُ Allah will enrich you مِن from فَضْلِهِۦٓ His Bounty إِن if شَآءَ He wills ۚ   إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knower حَكِيمٌ All-Wise

قَـٰتِلُوا۟ Fight ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا (do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَلَا and not بِٱلْيَوْمِ in the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ the Last وَلَا and not يُحَرِّمُونَ they make unlawful مَا what حَرَّمَ Allah has made unlawful ٱللَّهُ Allah has made unlawful وَرَسُولُهُۥ and His Messenger وَلَا and not يَدِينُونَ they acknowledge دِينَ (the) religion ٱلْحَقِّ (of) the truth مِنَ from ٱلَّذِينَ those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ the Scripture حَتَّىٰ until يُعْطُوا۟ they pay ٱلْجِزْيَةَ the jizyah عَن willingly يَدٍ willingly وَهُمْ while they صَـٰغِرُونَ (are) subdued

وَقَالَتِ And said ٱلْيَهُودُ the Jews عُزَيْرٌ Uzair ٱبْنُ (is) son ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَقَالَتِ And said ٱلنَّصَـٰرَى the Christians ٱلْمَسِيحُ Messiah ٱبْنُ (is) son ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ۖ   ذَٰلِكَ That قَوْلُهُم (is) their saying بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ with their mouths ۖ   يُضَـٰهِـُٔونَ they imitate قَوْلَ the saying ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved مِن before قَبْلُ before ۚ   قَـٰتَلَهُمُ (May) Allah destroy them ٱللَّهُ (May) Allah destroy them ۚ   أَنَّىٰ How يُؤْفَكُونَ deluded are they

ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ They have taken أَحْبَارَهُمْ their rabbis وَرُهْبَـٰنَهُمْ and their monks أَرْبَابًا (as) Lords مِّن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah وَٱلْمَسِيحَ and the Messiah ٱبْنَ son مَرْيَمَ (of) Maryam وَمَآ And not أُمِرُوٓا۟ they were commanded إِلَّا except لِيَعْبُدُوٓا۟ that they worship إِلَـٰهًا One God وَٰحِدًا One God ۖ   لَّآ (There) is no إِلَـٰهَ god إِلَّا except هُوَ Him ۚ   سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ Glory be to Him عَمَّا from what يُشْرِكُونَ they associate (with Him)

يُرِيدُونَ They want أَن to يُطْفِـُٔوا۟ extinguish نُورَ Allah's light ٱللَّهِ Allah's light بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ with their mouths وَيَأْبَى but Allah refuses ٱللَّهُ but Allah refuses إِلَّآ except أَن to يُتِمَّ perfect نُورَهُۥ His Light وَلَوْ even if كَرِهَ the disbelievers dislike (it) ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers dislike (it)

هُوَ He ٱلَّذِىٓ (is) the One Who أَرْسَلَ has sent رَسُولَهُۥ His Messenger بِٱلْهُدَىٰ with the guidance وَدِينِ and the religion ٱلْحَقِّ (of) [the] truth لِيُظْهِرَهُۥ to manifest it عَلَى over ٱلدِّينِ all religions كُلِّهِۦ all religions وَلَوْ Even if كَرِهَ dislike (it) ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ the polytheists

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe ٱلَّذِينَ O you who believe ءَامَنُوٓا۟ O you who believe إِنَّ Indeed كَثِيرًا many مِّنَ of ٱلْأَحْبَارِ the rabbis وَٱلرُّهْبَانِ and the monks لَيَأْكُلُونَ surely eat أَمْوَٰلَ (the) wealth ٱلنَّاسِ (of) the people بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ in falsehood وَيَصُدُّونَ and hinder عَن from سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ۗ   وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who يَكْنِزُونَ hoard ٱلذَّهَبَ the gold وَٱلْفِضَّةَ and the silver وَلَا and (do) not يُنفِقُونَهَا spend it فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah فَبَشِّرْهُم [so] give them tidings بِعَذَابٍ of a punishment أَلِيمٍ painful

يَوْمَ (The) Day يُحْمَىٰ it will be heated [on it] عَلَيْهَا it will be heated [on it] فِى in نَارِ the Fire جَهَنَّمَ (of) Hell فَتُكْوَىٰ and will be branded بِهَا with it جِبَاهُهُمْ their foreheads وَجُنُوبُهُمْ and their flanks وَظُهُورُهُمْ and their backs ۖ   هَـٰذَا This مَا (is) what كَنَزْتُمْ you hoarded لِأَنفُسِكُمْ for yourselves فَذُوقُوا۟ so taste مَا what كُنتُمْ you used to تَكْنِزُونَ hoard

إِنَّ Indeed عِدَّةَ (the) number ٱلشُّهُورِ (of) the months عِندَ with ٱللَّهِ Allah ٱثْنَا (is) twelve عَشَرَ (is) twelve شَهْرًا months فِى in كِتَـٰبِ (the) ordinance ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah يَوْمَ (from the) Day خَلَقَ He created ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth مِنْهَآ of them أَرْبَعَةٌ four حُرُمٌ (are) sacred ۚ   ذَٰلِكَ That ٱلدِّينُ (is) the religion ٱلْقَيِّمُ the upright ۚ   فَلَا so (do) not تَظْلِمُوا۟ wrong فِيهِنَّ therein أَنفُسَكُمْ yourselves ۚ   وَقَـٰتِلُوا۟ And fight ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists كَآفَّةً all together كَمَا as يُقَـٰتِلُونَكُمْ they fight you كَآفَّةً all together ۚ   وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ And know أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah مَعَ (is) with ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous

إِنَّمَا Indeed ٱلنَّسِىٓءُ the postponing زِيَادَةٌ (is) an increase فِى in ٱلْكُفْرِ the disbelief ۖ   يُضَلُّ are led astray بِهِ by it ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve يُحِلُّونَهُۥ They make it lawful عَامًا one year وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ and make it unlawful عَامًا (another) year لِّيُوَاطِـُٔوا۟ to adjust عِدَّةَ the number مَا which حَرَّمَ Allah has made unlawful ٱللَّهُ Allah has made unlawful فَيُحِلُّوا۟ and making lawful مَا what حَرَّمَ Allah has made unlawful ٱللَّهُ Allah has made unlawful ۚ   زُيِّنَ Is made fair-seeming لَهُمْ to them سُوٓءُ (the) evil أَعْمَـٰلِهِمْ (of) their deeds ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah لَا (does) not يَهْدِى guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe ٱلَّذِينَ O you who believe ءَامَنُوا۟ O you who believe مَا What لَكُمْ (is the matter) with you إِذَا when قِيلَ it is said لَكُمُ to you ٱنفِرُوا۟ go forth فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ٱثَّاقَلْتُمْ you cling heavily إِلَى to ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth ۚ   أَرَضِيتُم Are you pleased بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ with the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world مِنَ (rather) than ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the Hereafter ۚ   فَمَا But what مَتَـٰعُ (is the) enjoyment ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (of) the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world فِى in (comparison to) ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ the hereafter إِلَّا except قَلِيلٌ a little

إِلَّا If not تَنفِرُوا۟ you go forth يُعَذِّبْكُمْ He will punish you عَذَابًا (with) a painful punishment أَلِيمًا (with) a painful punishment وَيَسْتَبْدِلْ and will replace you قَوْمًا (with) a people غَيْرَكُمْ other than you وَلَا and not تَضُرُّوهُ you can harm Him شَيْـًٔا (in) anything ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلَىٰ (is) on كُلِّ every شَىْءٍ thing قَدِيرٌ All-Powerful

إِلَّا If not تَنصُرُوهُ you help him فَقَدْ certainly نَصَرَهُ Allah helped him ٱللَّهُ Allah helped him إِذْ when أَخْرَجَهُ drove him out ٱلَّذِينَ those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved ثَانِىَ the second ٱثْنَيْنِ (of) the two إِذْ when هُمَا they both فِى (were) in ٱلْغَارِ the cave إِذْ when يَقُولُ he said لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ to his companion لَا (Do) not تَحْزَنْ grieve إِنَّ indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah مَعَنَا (is) with us ۖ   فَأَنزَلَ Then Allah sent down ٱللَّهُ Then Allah sent down سَكِينَتَهُۥ His tranquility عَلَيْهِ upon him وَأَيَّدَهُۥ and supported him بِجُنُودٍ with forces لَّمْ which you did not see تَرَوْهَا which you did not see وَجَعَلَ and made كَلِمَةَ (the) word ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieved ٱلسُّفْلَىٰ the lowest ۗ   وَكَلِمَةُ while (the) Word ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah هِىَ it (is) ٱلْعُلْيَا the highest ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty حَكِيمٌ All-Wise

ٱنفِرُوا۟ Go forth خِفَافًا light وَثِقَالًا or heavy وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟ and strive بِأَمْوَٰلِكُمْ with your wealth وَأَنفُسِكُمْ and your lives فِى in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah ۚ   ذَٰلِكُمْ That خَيْرٌ (is) better لَّكُمْ for you إِن if كُنتُمْ you تَعْلَمُونَ know

لَوْ If كَانَ it had been عَرَضًا a gain قَرِيبًا near وَسَفَرًا and a journey قَاصِدًا easy لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ surely they (would) have followed you وَلَـٰكِنۢ but بَعُدَتْ was long عَلَيْهِمُ for them ٱلشُّقَّةُ the distance ۚ   وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ And they will swear بِٱللَّهِ by Allah لَوِ If ٱسْتَطَعْنَا we were able لَخَرَجْنَا certainly we (would) have come forth مَعَكُمْ with you يُهْلِكُونَ They destroy أَنفُسَهُمْ their own selves وَٱللَّهُ and Allah يَعْلَمُ knows إِنَّهُمْ (that) indeed, they لَكَـٰذِبُونَ (are) surely liars

عَفَا (May) Allah forgive ٱللَّهُ (May) Allah forgive عَنكَ you لِمَ Why (did) أَذِنتَ you grant leave لَهُمْ to them حَتَّىٰ until يَتَبَيَّنَ (became) evident لَكَ to you ٱلَّذِينَ those who صَدَقُوا۟ were truthful وَتَعْلَمَ and you knew ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ the liars

لَا (Would) not ask your permission يَسْتَـْٔذِنُكَ (Would) not ask your permission ٱلَّذِينَ those who يُؤْمِنُونَ believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَٱلْيَوْمِ and the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ the Last أَن that يُجَـٰهِدُوا۟ they strive بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ with their wealth وَأَنفُسِهِمْ and their lives ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower بِٱلْمُتَّقِينَ of the righteous

إِنَّمَا Only يَسْتَـْٔذِنُكَ ask your leave ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا (do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَٱلْيَوْمِ and the Day ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ the Last وَٱرْتَابَتْ and (are in) doubts قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts فَهُمْ so they فِى in رَيْبِهِمْ their doubts يَتَرَدَّدُونَ they waver

وَلَوْ And if أَرَادُوا۟ they had wished ٱلْخُرُوجَ (to) go forth لَأَعَدُّوا۟ surely they (would) have prepared لَهُۥ for it عُدَّةً (some) preparation وَلَـٰكِن But كَرِهَ Allah disliked ٱللَّهُ Allah disliked ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمْ their being sent فَثَبَّطَهُمْ so He made them lag behind وَقِيلَ and it was said ٱقْعُدُوا۟ Sit مَعَ with ٱلْقَـٰعِدِينَ those who sit

لَوْ If خَرَجُوا۟ they (had) gone forth فِيكُم with you مَّا not زَادُوكُمْ they (would) have increased you إِلَّا except خَبَالًا (in) confusion وَلَأَوْضَعُوا۟ and would have been active خِلَـٰلَكُمْ in your midst يَبْغُونَكُمُ seeking (for) you ٱلْفِتْنَةَ dissension وَفِيكُمْ And among you (are some) سَمَّـٰعُونَ who would have listened لَهُمْ to them ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلِيمٌۢ (is) All-Knower بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ of the wrongdoers

لَقَدِ Verily ٱبْتَغَوُا۟ they had sought ٱلْفِتْنَةَ dissension مِن before قَبْلُ before وَقَلَّبُوا۟ and had upset لَكَ for you ٱلْأُمُورَ the matters حَتَّىٰ until جَآءَ came ٱلْحَقُّ the truth وَظَهَرَ and became manifest أَمْرُ (the) Order of Allah ٱللَّهِ (the) Order of Allah وَهُمْ while they كَـٰرِهُونَ disliked (it)

وَمِنْهُم And among them مَّن (is he) who يَقُولُ says ٱئْذَن Grant me leave لِّى Grant me leave وَلَا and (do) not تَفْتِنِّىٓ put me to trial ۚ   أَلَا Surely فِى in ٱلْفِتْنَةِ the trial سَقَطُوا۟ they have fallen ۗ   وَإِنَّ And indeed جَهَنَّمَ Hell لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ (will) surely surround بِٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ the disbelievers

إِن If تُصِبْكَ befalls you حَسَنَةٌ good تَسُؤْهُمْ it distresses them ۖ   وَإِن but if تُصِبْكَ befalls you مُصِيبَةٌ a calamity يَقُولُوا۟ they say قَدْ Verily أَخَذْنَآ we took أَمْرَنَا our matter مِن before قَبْلُ before وَيَتَوَلَّوا۟ And they turn away وَّهُمْ while they فَرِحُونَ (are) rejoicing

قُل Say لَّن Never يُصِيبَنَآ will befall us إِلَّا except مَا what كَتَبَ Allah has decreed ٱللَّهُ Allah has decreed لَنَا for us هُوَ He مَوْلَىٰنَا (is) our Protector ۚ   وَعَلَى And on ٱللَّهِ Allah فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ [so] let the believers put (their) trust ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ [so] let the believers put (their) trust

قُلْ Say هَلْ Do تَرَبَّصُونَ you await بِنَآ for us إِلَّآ except إِحْدَى one ٱلْحُسْنَيَيْنِ (of) the two best (things) ۖ   وَنَحْنُ while we نَتَرَبَّصُ [we] await بِكُمْ for you أَن that يُصِيبَكُمُ Allah will afflict you ٱللَّهُ Allah will afflict you بِعَذَابٍ with a punishment مِّنْ from عِندِهِۦٓ [near] Him أَوْ or بِأَيْدِينَا by our hands ۖ   فَتَرَبَّصُوٓا۟ So wait إِنَّا indeed, we مَعَكُم with you مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ (are) waiting

قُلْ Say أَنفِقُوا۟ Spend طَوْعًا willingly أَوْ or كَرْهًا unwillingly لَّن never يُتَقَبَّلَ will be accepted مِنكُمْ from you ۖ   إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you كُنتُمْ [you] are قَوْمًا a people فَـٰسِقِينَ defiantly disobedient

وَمَا And not مَنَعَهُمْ prevents them أَن that تُقْبَلَ is accepted مِنْهُمْ from them نَفَقَـٰتُهُمْ their contributions إِلَّآ except أَنَّهُمْ that they كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ and in His Messenger وَلَا and not يَأْتُونَ they come ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ (to) the prayer إِلَّا except وَهُمْ while they كُسَالَىٰ (are) lazy وَلَا and not يُنفِقُونَ they spend إِلَّا except وَهُمْ while they كَـٰرِهُونَ (are) unwilling

فَلَا So (let) not تُعْجِبْكَ impress you أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ their wealth وَلَآ and not أَوْلَـٰدُهُمْ their children ۚ   إِنَّمَا Only يُرِيدُ Allah intends ٱللَّهُ Allah intends لِيُعَذِّبَهُم to punish them بِهَا with it فِى in ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world وَتَزْهَقَ and should depart أَنفُسُهُمْ their souls وَهُمْ while they كَـٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers

وَيَحْلِفُونَ And they swear بِٱللَّهِ by Allah إِنَّهُمْ indeed, they لَمِنكُمْ surely (are) of you وَمَا while not هُم they مِّنكُمْ (are) of you وَلَـٰكِنَّهُمْ but they قَوْمٌ (are) a people يَفْرَقُونَ (who) are afraid

لَوْ If يَجِدُونَ they could find مَلْجَـًٔا a refuge أَوْ or مَغَـٰرَٰتٍ caves أَوْ or مُدَّخَلًا a place to enter لَّوَلَّوْا۟ surely, they would turn إِلَيْهِ to it وَهُمْ and they يَجْمَحُونَ run wild

وَمِنْهُم And among them مَّن (is he) who يَلْمِزُكَ criticizes you فِى concerning ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتِ the charities فَإِنْ Then if أُعْطُوا۟ they are given مِنْهَا from it رَضُوا۟ they are pleased وَإِن but if لَّمْ not يُعْطَوْا۟ they are given مِنْهَآ from it إِذَا then هُمْ they يَسْخَطُونَ (are) enraged

وَلَوْ And if أَنَّهُمْ [that] they رَضُوا۟ (were) satisfied مَآ (with) what ءَاتَىٰهُمُ Allah gave them ٱللَّهُ Allah gave them وَرَسُولُهُۥ and His Messenger وَقَالُوا۟ and said حَسْبُنَا Sufficient for us ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah سَيُؤْتِينَا Allah will give us ٱللَّهُ Allah will give us مِن of فَضْلِهِۦ His Bounty وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ and His Messenger إِنَّآ Indeed, we إِلَى to ٱللَّهِ Allah رَٰغِبُونَ turn our hopes

إِنَّمَا Only ٱلصَّدَقَـٰتُ the charities لِلْفُقَرَآءِ (are) for the poor وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ and the needy وَٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ and those who collect عَلَيْهَا them وَٱلْمُؤَلَّفَةِ and the ones inclined قُلُوبُهُمْ their hearts وَفِى and in ٱلرِّقَابِ the (freeing of) the necks وَٱلْغَـٰرِمِينَ and for those in debt وَفِى and in سَبِيلِ (the) way ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah وَٱبْنِ and the wayfarer ٱلسَّبِيلِ and the wayfarer ۖ   فَرِيضَةً an obligation مِّنَ from ٱللَّهِ Allah ۗ   وَٱللَّهُ And Allah عَلِيمٌ (is) All-Knowing حَكِيمٌ All-Wise

وَمِنْهُمُ And among them ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those who يُؤْذُونَ hurt ٱلنَّبِىَّ the Prophet وَيَقُولُونَ and they say هُوَ He is أُذُنٌ (all) ear ۚ   قُلْ Say أُذُنُ An ear خَيْرٍ (of) goodness لَّكُمْ for you يُؤْمِنُ he believes بِٱللَّهِ in Allah وَيُؤْمِنُ and believes لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers وَرَحْمَةٌ and (is) a mercy لِّلَّذِينَ to those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believe مِنكُمْ among you ۚ   وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who يُؤْذُونَ hurt رَسُولَ (the) Messenger ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah لَهُمْ for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment أَلِيمٌ painful

يَحْلِفُونَ They swear بِٱللَّهِ by Allah لَكُمْ to you لِيُرْضُوكُمْ to please you وَٱللَّهُ And Allah وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ and His Messenger أَحَقُّ (have) more right أَن that يُرْضُوهُ they should please Him إِن if كَانُوا۟ they are مُؤْمِنِينَ believers

أَلَمْ Do not يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ they know أَنَّهُۥ that he مَن who يُحَادِدِ opposes ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ and His Messenger فَأَنَّ [then] that لَهُۥ for him نَارَ (is the) Fire جَهَنَّمَ (of) Hell خَـٰلِدًا (will) abide forever فِيهَا in it ۚ   ذَٰلِكَ That ٱلْخِزْىُ (is) the disgrace ٱلْعَظِيمُ the great

يَحْذَرُ Fear ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ the hypocrites أَن lest تُنَزَّلَ be revealed عَلَيْهِمْ about them سُورَةٌ a Surah تُنَبِّئُهُم informing them بِمَا of what فِى (is) in قُلُوبِهِمْ their hearts ۚ   قُلِ Say ٱسْتَهْزِءُوٓا۟ Mock إِنَّ indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah مُخْرِجٌ (will) bring forth مَّا what تَحْذَرُونَ you fear

وَلَئِن And if سَأَلْتَهُمْ you ask them لَيَقُولُنَّ surely they will say إِنَّمَا Only كُنَّا we were نَخُوضُ conversing وَنَلْعَبُ and playing ۚ   قُلْ Say أَبِٱللَّهِ Is it Allah وَءَايَـٰتِهِۦ and His Verses وَرَسُولِهِۦ and His Messenger كُنتُمْ (that) you were تَسْتَهْزِءُونَ mocking

لَا (Do) not تَعْتَذِرُوا۟ make excuse قَدْ verily كَفَرْتُم you have disbelieved بَعْدَ after إِيمَـٰنِكُمْ your belief ۚ   إِن If نَّعْفُ We pardon عَن [on] طَآئِفَةٍ a party مِّنكُمْ of you نُعَذِّبْ We will punish طَآئِفَةًۢ a party بِأَنَّهُمْ because they كَانُوا۟ were مُجْرِمِينَ criminals

ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ The hypocrite men وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتُ and the hypocrite women بَعْضُهُم some of them مِّنۢ (are) of بَعْضٍ others ۚ   يَأْمُرُونَ They enjoin بِٱلْمُنكَرِ the wrong وَيَنْهَوْنَ and forbid عَنِ what ٱلْمَعْرُوفِ (is) the right وَيَقْبِضُونَ and they close أَيْدِيَهُمْ their hands ۚ   نَسُوا۟ They forget ٱللَّهَ Allah فَنَسِيَهُمْ so He has forgotten them ۗ   إِنَّ Indeed ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ the hypocrites هُمُ they (are) ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ the defiantly disobedient

وَعَدَ Allah has promised ٱللَّهُ Allah has promised ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ the hypocrite men وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتِ and the hypocrite women وَٱلْكُفَّارَ and the disbelievers نَارَ Fire جَهَنَّمَ (of) Hell خَـٰلِدِينَ they (will) abide forever فِيهَا in it ۚ   هِىَ It (is) حَسْبُهُمْ sufficient for them ۚ   وَلَعَنَهُمُ And Allah has cursed them ٱللَّهُ And Allah has cursed them ۖ   وَلَهُمْ and for them عَذَابٌ (is) a punishment مُّقِيمٌ enduring

كَٱلَّذِينَ Like those مِن before you قَبْلِكُمْ before you كَانُوٓا۟ they were أَشَدَّ mightier مِنكُمْ than you قُوَّةً (in) strength وَأَكْثَرَ and more abundant أَمْوَٰلًا (in) wealth وَأَوْلَـٰدًا and children فَٱسْتَمْتَعُوا۟ So they enjoyed بِخَلَـٰقِهِمْ their portion فَٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم and you have enjoyed بِخَلَـٰقِكُمْ your portion كَمَا like ٱسْتَمْتَعَ enjoyed ٱلَّذِينَ those مِن before you قَبْلِكُم before you بِخَلَـٰقِهِمْ their portion وَخُضْتُمْ and you indulge كَٱلَّذِى like the one who خَاضُوٓا۟ indulges (in idle talk) ۚ   أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those حَبِطَتْ worthless أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ (are) their deeds فِى in ٱلدُّنْيَا the world وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ and (in) the Hereafter ۖ   وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ And those هُمُ they ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ (are) the losers

أَلَمْ Has not يَأْتِهِمْ come to them نَبَأُ (the) news ٱلَّذِينَ (of) those who مِن (were) before them قَبْلِهِمْ (were) before them قَوْمِ (the) people نُوحٍ (of) Nuh وَعَادٍ and Aad وَثَمُودَ and Thamud وَقَوْمِ and (the) people إِبْرَٰهِيمَ (of) Ibrahim وَأَصْحَـٰبِ and (the) companions مَدْيَنَ (of) Madyan وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتِ and the towns overturned ۚ   أَتَتْهُمْ Came to them رُسُلُهُم their Messengers بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ with clear proofs ۖ   فَمَا And not كَانَ was ٱللَّهُ Allah لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ to wrong them وَلَـٰكِن but كَانُوٓا۟ they were (to) أَنفُسَهُمْ themselves يَظْلِمُونَ doing wrong

وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ And the believing men وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتُ and the believing women بَعْضُهُمْ some of them أَوْلِيَآءُ (are) allies بَعْضٍ (of) others ۚ   يَأْمُرُونَ They enjoin بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ the right وَيَنْهَوْنَ and forbid عَنِ from ٱلْمُنكَرِ the wrong وَيُقِيمُونَ and they establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer وَيُؤْتُونَ and give ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ the zakah وَيُطِيعُونَ and they obey ٱللَّهَ Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ and His Messenger ۚ   أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those سَيَرْحَمُهُمُ Allah will have mercy on them ٱللَّهُ Allah will have mercy on them ۗ   إِنَّ Indeed ٱللَّهَ Allah عَزِيزٌ (is) All-Mighty حَكِيمٌ All-Wise

وَعَدَ (Has been) promised ٱللَّهُ (by) Allah ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (to) the believing men وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ and the believing women جَنَّـٰتٍ Gardens تَجْرِى flow مِن from تَحْتِهَا underneath it ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ the rivers خَـٰلِدِينَ (will) abide forever فِيهَا in it وَمَسَـٰكِنَ and dwellings طَيِّبَةً blessed فِى in جَنَّـٰتِ Gardens عَدْنٍ (of) everlasting bliss ۚ   وَرِضْوَٰنٌ But the pleasure مِّنَ of ٱللَّهِ Allah أَكْبَرُ (is) greater ۚ   ذَٰلِكَ That هُوَ it ٱلْفَوْزُ (is) the success ٱلْعَظِيمُ great

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O Prophet ٱلنَّبِىُّ O Prophet جَـٰهِدِ Strive (against) ٱلْكُفَّارَ the disbelievers وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ and the hypocrites وَٱغْلُظْ and be stern عَلَيْهِمْ with them ۚ   وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ And their abode جَهَنَّمُ (is) Hell ۖ   وَبِئْسَ and wretched ٱلْمَصِيرُ (is) the destination
