وَٱلنَّجْمِ By the star إِذَا when هَوَىٰ it goes down

مَا Not ضَلَّ has strayed صَاحِبُكُمْ your companion وَمَا and not غَوَىٰ has he erred

وَمَا And not يَنطِقُ he speaks عَنِ from ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ the desire

إِنْ Not هُوَ it إِلَّا (is) except وَحْىٌ a revelation يُوحَىٰ revealed

عَلَّمَهُۥ Has taught him شَدِيدُ the (one) mighty ٱلْقُوَىٰ (in) power

ذُو Possessor of soundness مِرَّةٍ Possessor of soundness فَٱسْتَوَىٰ And he rose

وَهُوَ While he بِٱلْأُفُقِ (was) in the horizon ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ the highest

ثُمَّ Then دَنَا he approached فَتَدَلَّىٰ and came down

فَكَانَ And was قَابَ (at) a distance قَوْسَيْنِ (of) two bow-(lengths) أَوْ or أَدْنَىٰ nearer

فَأَوْحَىٰٓ So he revealed إِلَىٰ to عَبْدِهِۦ His slave مَآ what أَوْحَىٰ he revealed

مَا Not كَذَبَ lied ٱلْفُؤَادُ the heart مَا what رَأَىٰٓ it saw

أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ Then will you dispute with him عَلَىٰ about مَا what يَرَىٰ he saw

وَلَقَدْ And certainly رَءَاهُ he saw him نَزْلَةً (in) descent أُخْرَىٰ another

عِندَ Near سِدْرَةِ (the) Lote Tree ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ (of) the utmost boundary

عِندَهَا Near it جَنَّةُ (is the) Garden ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ (of) Abode

إِذْ When يَغْشَى covered ٱلسِّدْرَةَ the Lote Tree مَا what يَغْشَىٰ covers

مَا Not زَاغَ swerved ٱلْبَصَرُ the sight وَمَا and not طَغَىٰ it transgressed

لَقَدْ Certainly رَأَىٰ he saw مِنْ of ءَايَـٰتِ (the) Signs رَبِّهِ (of) his Lord ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ the Greatest

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ So have you seen ٱللَّـٰتَ the Lat وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ and the Uzza

وَمَنَوٰةَ And Manat ٱلثَّالِثَةَ the third ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ the other

أَلَكُمُ Is for you ٱلذَّكَرُ the male وَلَهُ and for Him ٱلْأُنثَىٰ the female

تِلْكَ This إِذًا then قِسْمَةٌ (is) a division ضِيزَىٰٓ unfair

إِنْ Not هِىَ they إِلَّآ (are) except أَسْمَآءٌ names سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ you have named them أَنتُمْ you وَءَابَآؤُكُم and your forefathers مَّآ not أَنزَلَ has Allah sent down ٱللَّهُ has Allah sent down بِهَا for it مِن any سُلْطَـٰنٍ authority ۚ   إِن Not يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow إِلَّا except ٱلظَّنَّ assumption وَمَا and what تَهْوَى desire ٱلْأَنفُسُ the(ir) souls ۖ   وَلَقَدْ And certainly جَآءَهُم has come to them مِّن from رَّبِّهِمُ their Lord ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ the guidance

أَمْ Or لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ (is) for man مَا what تَمَنَّىٰ he wishes

فَلِلَّهِ But for Allah ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ (is) the last وَٱلْأُولَىٰ and the first

وَكَم And how many مِّن of مَّلَكٍ (the) Angels فِى in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens لَا not تُغْنِى will avail شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ their intercession شَيْـًٔا anything إِلَّا except مِنۢ after بَعْدِ after أَن [that] يَأْذَنَ Allah has given permission ٱللَّهُ Allah has given permission لِمَن for whom يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَرْضَىٰٓ and approves

إِنَّ Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ those who لَا (do) not يُؤْمِنُونَ believe بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter لَيُسَمُّونَ surely they name ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ the Angels تَسْمِيَةَ name(s) ٱلْأُنثَىٰ (of) female

وَمَا And not لَهُم for them بِهِۦ about it مِنْ any عِلْمٍ knowledge ۖ   إِن Not يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow إِلَّا but ٱلظَّنَّ assumption ۖ   وَإِنَّ And indeed ٱلظَّنَّ the assumption لَا (does) not يُغْنِى avail مِنَ against ٱلْحَقِّ the truth شَيْـًٔا anything

فَأَعْرِضْ So turn away عَن from مَّن (him) who تَوَلَّىٰ turns away عَن from ذِكْرِنَا Our Reminder وَلَمْ and not يُرِدْ he desires إِلَّا except ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world

ذَٰلِكَ That مَبْلَغُهُم (is) their sum مِّنَ of ٱلْعِلْمِ knowledge ۚ   إِنَّ Indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord هُوَ (is) He (Who) أَعْلَمُ knows best بِمَن (he) who ضَلَّ strays عَن from سَبِيلِهِۦ His Path وَهُوَ and He أَعْلَمُ knows best بِمَنِ (he) who ٱهْتَدَىٰ is guided

وَلِلَّهِ And for Allah مَا (is) whatever فِى (is) in ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَمَا and whatever فِى (is) in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth لِيَجْزِىَ that He may recompense ٱلَّذِينَ those who أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ do evil بِمَا with what عَمِلُوا۟ they have done وَيَجْزِىَ and recompense ٱلَّذِينَ those who أَحْسَنُوا۟ do good بِٱلْحُسْنَى with the best

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who يَجْتَنِبُونَ avoid كَبَـٰٓئِرَ great ٱلْإِثْمِ sins وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ and the immoralities إِلَّا except ٱللَّمَمَ the small faults ۚ   إِنَّ indeed رَبَّكَ your Lord وَٰسِعُ (is) vast ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ (in) forgiveness ۚ   هُوَ He أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing about you بِكُمْ (is) most knowing about you إِذْ when أَنشَأَكُم He produced you مِّنَ from ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَإِذْ and when أَنتُمْ you (were) أَجِنَّةٌ fetuses فِى in بُطُونِ (the) wombs أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ (of) your mothers ۖ   فَلَا So (do) not تُزَكُّوٓا۟ ascribe purity أَنفُسَكُمْ (to) yourselves ۖ   هُوَ He أَعْلَمُ knows best بِمَنِ (he) who ٱتَّقَىٰٓ fears

أَفَرَءَيْتَ Did you see ٱلَّذِى the one who تَوَلَّىٰ turned away

وَأَعْطَىٰ And gave قَلِيلًا a little وَأَكْدَىٰٓ and withheld

أَعِندَهُۥ Is with him عِلْمُ (the) knowledge ٱلْغَيْبِ (of) the unseen فَهُوَ so he يَرَىٰٓ sees

أَمْ Or لَمْ not يُنَبَّأْ he was informed بِمَا with what فِى (was) in صُحُفِ (the) Scriptures مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ And Ibrahim ٱلَّذِى who وَفَّىٰٓ fulfilled

أَلَّا That not تَزِرُ will bear وَازِرَةٌ a bearer of burdens وِزْرَ (the) burden أُخْرَىٰ (of) another

وَأَن And that لَّيْسَ is not لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ for man إِلَّا except مَا what سَعَىٰ he strives (for)

وَأَنَّ And that سَعْيَهُۥ his striving سَوْفَ will soon يُرَىٰ be seen

ثُمَّ Then يُجْزَىٰهُ he will be recompensed for it ٱلْجَزَآءَ the recompense ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ the fullest

وَأَنَّ And that إِلَىٰ to رَبِّكَ your Lord ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ (is) the final goal

وَأَنَّهُۥ And that He هُوَ [He] أَضْحَكَ makes (one) laugh وَأَبْكَىٰ and makes (one) weep

وَأَنَّهُۥ And that He هُوَ [He] أَمَاتَ causes death وَأَحْيَا and gives life

وَأَنَّهُۥ And that He خَلَقَ created ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ the pairs ٱلذَّكَرَ the male وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ and the female

مِن From نُّطْفَةٍ a semen-drop إِذَا when تُمْنَىٰ it is emitted

وَأَنَّ And that عَلَيْهِ upon Him ٱلنَّشْأَةَ (is) the bringing forth ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ another

وَأَنَّهُۥ And that He هُوَ [He] أَغْنَىٰ enriches وَأَقْنَىٰ and suffices

وَأَنَّهُۥ And that He هُوَ [He] رَبُّ (is the) Lord ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ (of) Sirius

وَأَنَّهُۥٓ And that He أَهْلَكَ destroyed عَادًا Aad ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first

وَثَمُودَا۟ And Thamud فَمَآ so not أَبْقَىٰ He spared

وَقَوْمَ And (the) people نُوحٍ (of) Nuh مِّن before قَبْلُ before ۖ   إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they كَانُوا۟ they were هُمْ they were أَظْلَمَ more unjust وَأَطْغَىٰ and more rebellious

وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ And the overturned cities أَهْوَىٰ He overthrew

فَغَشَّىٰهَا So covered them مَا what غَشَّىٰ covered

فَبِأَىِّ Then which (of) ءَالَآءِ the Favors رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord تَتَمَارَىٰ will you doubt

هَـٰذَا This نَذِيرٌ (is) a warner مِّنَ from ٱلنُّذُرِ the warners ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ the former

أَزِفَتِ Has approached ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ the Approaching Day

لَيْسَ Not is لَهَا for it مِن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah كَاشِفَةٌ any remover

أَفَمِنْ Then of هَـٰذَا this ٱلْحَدِيثِ statement تَعْجَبُونَ you wonder

وَتَضْحَكُونَ And you laugh وَلَا and (do) not تَبْكُونَ weep

وَأَنتُمْ While you سَـٰمِدُونَ amuse (yourselves)

فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ So prostrate لِلَّهِ to Allah وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ and worship (Him) ۩
